Carole Olson showed talent at an early age, winning her first art competition at six. As an Air Force dependent, the frequent reassignments of her SAC pilot father resulted in exposing her to many different locales and peoples.
After earning a Fine Arts degree at the
University of New Mexico, Carole moved to California where she had an opportunity to work as a TV sitcom writer. In addition, she studied animation extensively at the Animation Union School. It was also during this period that Carole became a student of noted artist Glenn Vilppu, refining her figure drawing skills in California studios and her poetic landscapes in Italian and French locales.
Although seeking a career as an artist, life kept pulling Carole in other directions. She trained as a paralegal in immigration law, which became her “day” job supporting her artistic endeavors. She was inspired in particular by Berthe Morisot, a 19th century Victorian woman who was told that painting could be only a pastime for ladies but, certainly, not a career. Morisot proved them wrong by establishing herself as one of the great French Impressionists. The assertive Morisot must have been whispering encouragement across the centuries to Carole, who was ready to listen.Realizing it was time to return to her true passion, painting, Carole sold her home in Woodland Hills, California, and moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Continuing her coursework at Andreeva Portrait Academy, Valdes Art Center and the Santa Fe Community College, she studied with notable artists Tony Ryder, Linda Kyser Smith, James Roybal, Jane Shoenfeld and Kevin Gorges. She has exhibited locally at Back Street Bistro, Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary, Two Pears Gallery, and the Mark Zoeller Gallery on Canyon Road.Today, Carole is creating paintings inspired by living in a truly unique and magical place, Santa Fe. For Carole Olson, it is indeed her time and her turn.
